Gooey Fish

video

Earlier this month, we took a drive up the mountain to go fishing.  The kids really liked being in the outdoors and catching fish.  As you can see from the video, they refer to the fish as "gooey fish", a reference to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Adlyn enjoyed singing along the river again this year and both kids crossed the logs to the other side of the river.  I hope we can return soon!

At the Gorge

We have spent a few days at the Gorge this month, and the kids have loved every minute of it.  They were able to catch some fish and play in the water.  One of their favorite things to do is sit under a tent made of blankets draped over the seats.  I was proud of Zach for sacrificing some days of fishing lake trout for a leisurely family outing!  Here are some pictures from one of the outings.

Sunscream

Adlyn calls sunscreen, "sunscream".  That is short...but, it is documented!

Subway

We stopped at Subway a few days ago to grab a sandwich for supper.  Zach and I finished our sandwiches in the restaurant, and the kids were still eating.  We decided to get on the road and had the kids bring their sandwiches with them.  Brooks was almost done with his 3" pepperoni sandwich, and Adlyn was finishing her 3" turkey, olive, and cheese sandwich, when they handed them to us in the front.  A few minutes later, Brooks told Zach that if he got hungry, he could eat some bites of his sandwich.  Adlyn followed up with the same offer.  Really?  How kind, and unexpected from a three year old.  Their voice was so compassionate and I could tell it was genuine.  As a mom, I love seeing these insights into their personalities.

Adlyn, a Goof

Adlyn is turning into a big kid.  Her personality is really developing, and I think she is a goofball and loves to make people laugh.  The other day I told her she was being dramatic (she was!) and she threw her body across my lap and proclaimed, "I'm not dramatic."  Ok, you're just plain.  She prefers to be plain.

Tonight, she came and told me she went to the bathroom standing up on the step stool.  Really?  That didn't work out too well.  I hope she doesn't try that again.  Maybe she is spending too much time with the boys in the house.

This weekend, Zach and Grandpa left the driveway to scout antelope.  They had the windows down and she yelled out, "Have fun boys!"

About two weeks ago, she was enjoying the Slip 'n Slide at Grandma's house.  Before she would start running down the mat, she did about 30 seconds of actions to get ready to run.  They included stretching, dancing, hand gestures, and much more.  It looked like a post-touchdown football celebration.

I keep thinking that this is how she is going to act when she is an 8 year old.

Mickey Mouse

Tonight, Adlyn asked me if Mickey Mouse was a girl or a boy.  We explained that he was a boy and Minnie Mouse was a girl.  She was also wondering if Goofy is a boy.  We quickly realized that the characters in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse are male dominant.  The only girls are Minnie, Daisy, and the occasional Clarabelle.

Baby Gone

When we are in the car, Brooks and Adlyn always have a special music request.  Their favorite song is Gone by Montgomery Gentry.  The kids refer to it as "Baby Gone".  They also don't mind listening to the song over and over and over again.  I like the song, so I'm fine with that.  On the other hand, Zach can handle it a few times, and is ready for something different.

Their favorite part comes towards the end...It makes them laugh!

Long gone, done me wrong
Never comin' back, my baby's gone , shes gone
Lonely at home, sittin' all alone
She's packed her bags and now she's gone
Never comin' back, she's gone
No no never, no no never, no never comin' back

Icicles

The kids prefer to call popsicles, icicles.  We have spent a lot of days this summer eating icicles on the back deck.  If they don't get an icicle out of our freezer, our neighbors love giving them popsicles through the fence.  Brooks and Adlyn don't hesitate to ask them for a special treat when they see them outside.

Today's Laugh

Brooks:  I'm a fishing cat.
Me:  Oh yeah?
Brooks:  A swimming one.
Me:  Oh, like a catfish?
Brooks:  (Smiles and acts shy.)

4th of July - Looking Back

I ran the local 4th of July half marathon last week.  It was a nice and challenging run, just as I had expected.  It is the 6th time I've done that race.  Here are some pictures from the 4th of July in years past.  I ran alone this year.  The kids are about 70 lbs combined, and it is just too heavy to push for 13.1 miles.  Instead, Zach and the kids watched from the side.

It was a quiet 4th of July since they banned fireworks in the area.  The risk for fire was too high, and it made for a quiet day!

Play-doh

Tonight the kids were playing with their Play-doh stamper.  Adlyn was naming all of the different items around the stamping wheel.  She said, "Train, Tay-toe Man, Oinky."  I knew the Tay-toe Man was Mr. Potato Head.  I asked her about "Oinky".  She laughed at me and said, "Pig".  I've never heard her refer to a pig as an "oinky" before.

Lemon

I thought I had posted this before, but I didn't come across it anywhere.

Brooks likes lemonade, but he calls it "lemon-abe".  When he goes to a restaurant, lemonade is the only thing he wants.

Golfing

In June, we took the kids to the driving range for the first time.  It was a beautiful evening.  I'm further convinced we have two lefties when it comes to sports.  There was a lot of smoke in the air that evening from the fires across the state.  I hope that we can go golfing again soon.

My new favorite pic of Brooks.
