Kitty Pool

A few weeks ago, Zach and the kids came with me on a work trip.  The hotel had a great water park, and although the kids were still a little small for most of the features, they enjoyed it.  I had to laugh to myself because when I was telling Adlyn there would be a kiddie pool, I am pretty sure she was processing it as a kitty pool.

They both went down the big water slide one time.  I think once they turn about 5 years old it will be better.  It was border line scary for them.  It was cute to see them in the water that was 3 feet deep.  They could walk in this deep water, and that was a great experience.  On the last day of our trip, the hot tub was working.  They both really like the hot tub, and I wish I could have soaked in it with them.

Overall, the trip was good.  It was a really long drive with two 3-year-olds in the car.  We had to make a gazillion bathroom stops along the way.  It was fun to visit with Zach's friend Jeff and his wife Tara.  They had a trampoline in their backyard and the kids loved every minute of it.

No More Kisses Left in Me

As we wrap up our bed time routine, Brooks has been quite humorous in the past few weeks.  Sometimes we wants hugs at night, sometimes he wants kisses.

Sometimes he says, "No more kisses left in me."  That means you need to fill him up with kisses before he can give you one.  I think it is pretty cute, and he came up with concept all on his own.

Booty

Both Brooks & Adlyn have a booty story.

Sometime this spring, we were visiting our neighbors.  As we went to leave, we were standing in their front yard talking.  Out of the blue, Brooks decides to pull down his shorts and moon Cheryl.  She laughed profusely!  I have no idea where he learned that, and he hasn't referenced it since that time.

A few weeks ago, Adlyn was going to the bathroom.  As I walked in, I noticed she was singing.  I didn't pay that much attention since she frequently sings and makes up songs.  But, I quickly stopped when I realized she was singing, and dancing, while going to the bathroom.  She was singing, "Shake your booty, shake your booty."  I softly asked her where she learned that phrase.  She didn't know.  Just this week, I realized where she learned it.  Sometimes when we are in the car, I play our wedding reception CD's.  I put it all together as I realized the song, "Shake your Booty" by KC & The Sunshine Band, is on the CD.

Mask

I wanted to document a word from Brooks, for future reference.

Instead of calling something a mask, he calls it a "mack-ie".

I know that post was short, but it is officially recorded!

Sauce

I took the kids to the grocery store with me one night this week.  The kids were helping me unload the cart of groceries on the conveyor belt at the check-out line.  Adlyn grabbed a jar of Prego spaghetti sauce and you can probably guess what happened next...

There was a crash and the jar broke and the sauce went all over the floor.  The lady in front of me said Adlyn's face was in shock when she dropped it.  That lady was nice and even picked up the big pieces of glass.  Luckily, Adlyn didn't have a piece of glass or sauce on her.  I know Adlyn felt really bad about what she did.  Some of her first words to me were, "Mom, how me put sauce on my noodles?"  I grabbed another jar of sauce for us and told the kids someone would come to clean up the mess.  Brooks and Adlyn asked if the grocery store man would come to clean up the mess.  Then, they asked me if the sweeper broom man would come and clean the mess.  I assured them it was ok.

During this whole event, I was sure the lady behind me could hear the commotion.  Evidently not.  Instead, when she stepped forward in line to place her items on the belt, she stepped in the sauce.  Great.  I gave her some paper towels to clean her sandal.

Hopefully that won't happen again.

Dad's Clothes

These pictures are also from April, but they make me laugh!  The kids really enjoy wearing Zach's shirts, and here we have captured some of those funny moments.

Float the Boat

These pictures are from April, but I still wanted to share them.  We read a Curious George book where George makes a boat our of newspaper.  We had to try the same activity!  We had a perfect river in town to launch our boats.  They didn't work that great, but it was a lot of fun and the kids loved it.  Zach even got wet so he could catch the boats downstream.

Workout

Last night, Zach went to the gym and mentioned he needed to grab his workout plan.  Adlyn was pretty cute, she asked me what kind of tricks Dad was going to do at the gym.

Music

Brooks enjoyed dancing to some "me-goo" (music) this weekend as Zach unloaded the boat.  The boat radio worked quite well and the kids thought the classical music was funny.

Rocket Ship

A trip to the park isn't just a simple trip to the park.  It is an adventure.  We get to ride our mo-mocycles and scooters (bikes), or trikes to the park.  We get to go down the hill from the house really fast, but we know to stop at the big red stop sign.  Brooks always checks for cars backing out of driveways so Adlyn doesn't have to.  Life is good.  We look both ways before we cross the street, and we know just where to maneuver our bikes and trikes to find the path of least resistance.  If we go on the sidewalk about 10 feet from the corner, we avoid the steep curb.  We always look out for manhole covers in the street because they make for a great bump!

As we go to pool park, we go through the alley.  Sometimes we'll stop for a quick game of concession stand at the steps near the building.  It is the perfect spot to ask Mom and Dad what kind of treat they want and deny their request because we are out of stock.  And, nothing is free.  It is a great way to make a quick buck.  They pay us fake money, even if we don't have Mom's favorite item - gummy worms.

Near the park there is a long wooden ramp that we ride down like race cars.  Now, we always hold on with two hands.  Brooks crashed his race car one day when he tried to wave to Mom.  Lesson learned.  One at a time, we race down the track once the flag is waved.

When we enter the park, we find the perfect spot to park our mo-mocycle, scooter, or trike.  Mom and Dad help us unbuckle our helmet but we can hang them on our mode-of-transportation by ourselves.  Now, the real fun begins.  What should we do first?  Perhaps we'll ride rocket ships, but Brooks says, "Maybe not."

Ok, we'll go make popcorn on the suspended bridge on the playground.  Mom dumps in the oil, pours in the corn, and plugs it in.  Brooks & Adlyn pop the corn by jumping up and down.  Don't worry, we'll let you know when it is done.  Then, remember to lift us off the bridge and pour us into a bowl.  After we make our snack, we'll fix the leaky pipes in the basement.  We head over cut-out in the playground and climb down the man-hole ladder.  On our way down, we'll check for leaky pipes and fix anything along the way.  Mom, we'll bring your laundry up from the basement as we climb up.  You can thank us for that.

As we head to the slides, we might play trains.  Or, it is possible that we will need you to make a gate about half-way down the slide.  We'll remind you the sign says, "No trespassing," and laugh as we break through the gate or slide underneath your arm.  Trespassing may be a big word, but we know how to say it.

Are you ready for rocket ships?  If so, lets head over to the swings.  Brooks has his landing gear up, so he is ready to blast-off.  Adlyn counts, "1, 2, 9, 6, 7, 8, 9, blastoff!"  Don't swing her until she says blast-off, or she'll get really mad.  This rocket ship has protocol to follow.  Our rocket ships have a lot of fire, so make sure you don't stand directly behind us, or you'll get burned.  If we run out of fire, we know exactly where to go to find it, and how to install it into the rocketship.  Adlyn wears a pink space suit.  Mom and Dad, make sure you push us the same height.  If one of us loses elevation, we'll gladly let you know.  These rocket ships are serious business.  Send us to the clouds or to the moon.  Brooks will tell you when his landing gear is coming down, so slow him down at that time.

Mom and Dad tell us when it is time to go, so once we get our helmets on, we play a little game of tow truck.  The court has a pothole, and someone is bound to get stuck.  As Brooks is stuck, Adlyn turns into a tow truck.  But, she isn't in a hurry to get Brooks out.  She might swing by the spinning planets to grab a bite to eat, and then she'll head over to help.  She pulls him out, and the roles reverse.

Now, it is time to go home.  The ride home is fun, especially when we have our trikes and can play bumper cars the whole way home.  But, I may be a little tired from all of my adventures, so it is possible you'll need to carry me, my mo-mocycle, and my helmet, uphill.  Hopefully, my sibling doesn't have the same request.  Sometimes, I wish my Mom was an octopus.

When we get home, a cup of milk and an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse will suit us just fine.

Thanks!  We'll see you on the next adventure.

Love,
Brooks & Adlyn

Words from Brooks

Brooks has a few words that make me smile when he says them.

He calls marshmallows, "mush-mellows".

He calls a computer, "pooh-due".

Simply writing these three lines took me about 15 minutes.  Brooks and Adlyn are watching a show on PBS about the great trains in North America.  Brooks was asking me 1,000 questions about trains.  I didn't have too many answers for him.  He thought it was funny to see trains where people eat dinner, "Dinner Trains".  I look forward to the day when we can take them on a train ride.

More Naked Fruit

Adlyn's conversations about naked fruit have continued.  She was eating her apple slices on the way to the grocery store and after she ate all the skin off the apple, and told me, "Look Mom, apple all naked!"  It was pretty cute, and she continued to eat the skin off the apples first.
