Sophisticated

The server at our restaurant tonight asked the kids what they wanted to eat.  The answer from our four year olds was clear, steak!
The kids devoured their lime marinated flank steak with grilled asparagus after they dipped their bread in olive oil and vinegar.  They wrapped it up with a chocolate sundae.
Adlyn critiqued the art on the wall, and claimed she isn't going to be an artist when she grows up, she is going to be a football player.
It makes me laugh that they have sophisticated tastes when it comes to food - no chicken nuggets for these guys!

Deal

Adlyn was grumpy when she woke up this morning.

After about 15 minutes of grumpiness, I asked her, "Adlyn, what's your deal today?"

Adlyn responded, "I'm not a deal!"

Going to School

Here are just some random pictures from this month when the kids were going to school.  I just thought they both looked so grown up!  I think Adlyn looks like she is about 12!

There really isn't anything little about four years old.  The best part is they are enjoying buckling themselves into their car seats.  It can't get much better than that.  What a time saver!

Not to mention, the responsibility that comes with being four has been wonderful.  The other day, their toy room was a disaster when I came home from work.  I told them we needed to clean it up.  Brooks said he would clean up all of the cars because he was the one who dumped them up so he should clean that part, with no help.  I won't argue with that.  Adlyn followed by saying she would clean all of the Little People animals since she played with them.  Bus load by bus load, she filled it up with animals and drove them to the proper container.  Age four has been a lot of fun thus far.

Ice Fishing

For two weekends in a row, we took the kids out ice fishing.  We didn't catch anything either time, but we had fun trying.  Obviously on week two, the fishing was really slow, and the snow was deep.  We had fun making ice fishing snowmen!

Zach goes ice fishing a lot in the winter, and the kids just didn't understand what it was all about.  It was fun to show the process to them on two beautiful and warm weekends.

St. Patrick's Day

The kids have been learning about leprechauns at school this week.  According to Adlyn, on Wednesday, the leprechauns turned their school milk green while they were at the library.  How cute!  I asked her if she drank it, she informed me that she only drinks white milk.  Brooks refuses to drink any milk, so I didn't even ask him.

They got to go on a scavenger hunt on Friday in their school to look for leprechauns.  Sounds like they had a great time.

I took the kids to school on Thursday, and most kids had brought a leprechaun trap to school.  Brooks and Adlyn each made one and brought it to school on Friday.  Their inventions were creative, and they did it on their own.  Most of the preschool traps were pretty elaborate, and had a lot of help from moms and dads.  Adlyn took a small cardboard box and requested help to cut a whole in the bottom of it.  Then, with pieces of masking tape, she covered the whole on the outside.  Now, when the leprechaun would hop in, it would get stuck to the sticky floor and would be trapped!  Brooks used a triangular tube box.  He made a little window for the leprechaun to climb in.  Then, he sealed off the ends with masking tape.  Then, when he would get it, he'd run to the end to get out and get stuck to the tape.  They used a gold coin, bubble gum, and a candy cane for bait.  They had a lot of fun with the project!

The kids didn't want green pancakes for breakfast today, so we made some green and white sugar cookies instead.

Woodstock

We were watching Charlie Brown and Snoopy the other day when Snoopy picks out a new birdhouse for Woodstock.  He had to do this because Snoopy broke Woodstock's old birdhouse.  When Snoopy was shaking the birdhouse, it made Woodstock all dizzy.  So, in the animation, they used little swirls over Woodstock's head to show that he was dizzy.

Brooks turned to Zach and I and laughed while he said, "Wood stock has springs coming out of his head!"

Track

The past two weeks the kids have come along with me to the track so I can do my workout.  The first time I took them the track was mostly covered in snow.  Obviously, no one scoops it in the winter!  A&B both made it around one time and kept entertained while I finished my workout.

This week, both Zach and the kids came along.  I loved it!  They ran a lap at the beginning and I think ran a total of a half mile during the course of my workout.  It was cute to see Brooks with red cheeks, he looked just like he did in a photo when he was a baby wearing his M&M costume on Halloween!  Both Brooks and Adlyn enjoyed getting their exercise, and I'm looking forward to taking them again in the future.

Brooks said on Monday during recess at school that he ran around the outskirts of the playground to get his exercise while he chased Adlyn.  It is cute to see them get older and older each day.  Each stage brings new things, and I really enjoy this stage!

The kids have gone for a bike ride for the past three days on their pedal bikes.  They have done great.  I had to loosen both of their helmets one notch after the winter season!  So, they are growing!  I hope that tomorrow we can raise their seats a little bit more.

No Surprise

Is it any surprise that when I just typed the title to my last blog entry that Adlyn woke up, followed by Brooks, who needed a drink?  No.  That's the way it goes...

Now, Adlyn wants to play a game on the iPad.  So, we are done blogging for the evening!

Climbing

A few weekends ago, we took the kids to the climbing wall at our gym for the first time.  Adlyn enjoyed it for a little while, but Brooks just sat on the couch on the side and watched.  Towards the end, he gave it a try.  I'd like to have them try it with a rope sometime.

This weekend, I asked Adlyn to tell Grandma what she did last weekend at the gym.  She responded, "I climbed the wall with my super muscles."
